Background
Angelique was fortunate to grow up by the
ocean in West Palm Beach, FL. When she was five years old she convinced
her parents to let her take dance lessons. As much as she loved dance,
she needed more -- at the age of nine she started gymnastics and fell
in love. Training six days a week, four hours a day -- it obviously paid
off -- in her first year of competing she became the Florida State Gymnastics
Champion! Her dance team won the Florida State Dance Championships.
When she started high school, Gymnastics gave way to Cheerleading. In
her sophomore year, her team won the Florida State Co-ed Cheerleading
Championships title, and went on to place fourth in Nationals! At fifteen,
she was the youngest person to earn her aerobics certification and become
a Group Fitness Instructor. Graduating early from high school and starting
college at age seventeen, Angelique was always ahead of the game! In 1997,
she attended the Madonna Grimes-New Era in Fitness workshop, and became
friends with Kary Odiatu, Ms. Fitness Canada. Kary not only gave her great
advice, but also helped her to see that it was possible to turn her dream
of competing into a reality!
While attending the University of Central Florida, Angelique competed
in Hawaiian Tropic and Venus swimsuit competitions, in order to prepare
her for the physique round. Having won several competitions, along with
her modeling experience (including fashion shows, print, television, and
promotional work) Angelique felt confident that she was ready to compete.
Her first fitness competition was July 14, 2001, in Atlanta, where she
landed in 3rd place, which qualified her to compete at The Fitness America
Nationals. She also placed 3rd in the Jan-Tana Classic in Lynchburg, VA
on August 4th. She competed in The ESPN Series on November 30th, where
she again took 3rd place. On June 21, 2002, she made the Top 20 Finals
at the Ms. Fitness Universe Pageant.
Two months after graduating college at East Tennessee State University,
Angelique competed in Fitness Universe 2003. Since then, she has put her
degree in Business Management to good use, by managing a Personal Training
Studio and an Investment Company. Her fans are waiting for the competition
bug to bite again...
